Eastpointe, MI (December 31, 2020) – A city worker has lost their life following an incident on the job on December 30 in the Eastpointe area.
Authorities were requested to assist at the scene of a workplace accident on Gratiot Avenue on Wednesday after being notified that a worker was involved in an incident. Investigations show that a male in his 40s was working to repair a water main break on Gratiot Avenue near 8 Mile Road. While working, the trench collapsed on-site.
The man became trapped underneath the trench. Workers were able to remove the man after the collapse. He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Authorities confirmed that the man later passed away from his injuries. At this time, investigations surrounding the cause of the incident are underway.
